predance
Our 3 year old predance program consists of a 45 minute creative dance class designed to be a fun-time experience and a first exposure to dance. Dancers will participate in simple song and dance routines, pantomime exercises and creative movement. The dancers wear ballet shoes and alternate between pre-ballet and tumbling on the mat.
combo
The hour-long Dance Combo class is designed to give 4-year-olds their first exposure to ballet and tap. A combination of 20 minutes of ballet movement, 20 minutes of tap rhythms, and 20 minutes of developmental tumbling helps dancers develop coordination, rhythm and balance. This class uses fantasy and fun songs to encourage personality growth.
essentials
The Kindergarten Essentials class has been designed for students enrolled in Kindergarten. This hour-long class will build in the basics, including right and left discrimination, counting music, and exploring rhythm through the use of the body. Teachers encourage each child’s recognition and memorization of basic dance steps in tap, ballet and jazz through the use of fun dance activities. Students will also have the opportunity to work in groups to create small improvisational dances that express the themes in different pieces of music.
ballet – ages 6 to adult
Enjoyment of movement, expression and sensitivity to music are combined with discipline in the study of ballet. It is an established technique with a scientific, anatomical approach to movement, teaching about the muscles, ligaments and tendons used to execute a step and why. In this way it is the basis for all dance, and now gymnastics and skating. Boys age 6 and up are on scholarship for this class.
tap – ages 6 to adult
Tap dancing is a stylized form of jazz with sound. At the developmental level, tap reinforces rhythm concepts. As the students advance in ability, they learn increasingly intricate combinations. Tap is experiencing a come back and is enjoyed by all ages and considered a great aerobics alternative.
jazz - ages 6 to adult
“West Side Story” paved the way for jazz. It has become an exciting adventure in dance with tense, high-paced movement using today’s music.
lyrical
Strong use of ballet techniques is incorporated into this form of dance. Defined simply as “poetry in motion”, lyrical often uses the “lyrics” from songs to non-verbally express the music. Having a very strong ballet background is important to mastering this dance technique. This form of dance is incorporated into our intermediate and advanced jazz classes.
hip hop (street dance)
Born of rap music and the excitement of break dancing, hip hop finds its roots on the streets of New York and L.A. Often seen in MTV videos and commercials, this type of dance is becoming a way to let go and let loose.
musical theatre
All forms of dance are incorporated in musical theatre, and music from Broadway shows and movies are used in this class. Combining song and dance, students portray characters from musicals and plays.
tumbling
Classes focus on the basic skills using balance, strength, and stretch. Mats are used, no apparatus.
